What a 14m tower is for

14.14m is the top of what an aluminium tower sensibly does, and at this height nothing is casual. Every lift is built to a plan, the base has to be genuinely level and load-bearing, and the job needs people who work at this height regularly. If you are weighing a tower against a scaffold or a powered platform at this reach, call us before you book — sometimes the honest answer is that a tower is not the right tool.

Is 14.14m the right height for you?

You stand on the platform at 12.14m and work comfortably to about 14.1m — that reaches a high-bay lighting grid or a five-storey frontage. Measure to the highest point you actually need to touch and take off roughly two metres; if the number you are left with is near 14.14, this is your tower. Working lower than that? The 12m version works to 12.14m, which reaches four-storey eaves and roof-level plant on a commercial unit.

Will it fit, and can you get it there?

2.5m x 1.35m gives two operatives room to work side by side with materials on the deck. This is the platform for external elevations, commercial sites and anything where you are up there for a full day.

At 1.35m wide it will not go through an internal doorway. It needs open ground for the base and the stabiliser spread — measure before you book if access is through a house or a narrow gate. What comes with the hire

Advanced guardrail (AGR) build-up

On a standard tower you climb to the new level and fit its guardrail once you are standing there. On this one the guardrail frame is raised into place from the platform below and locked before anyone steps up, so no operative ever stands on an unprotected level while the tower goes up or comes down.

Hire this one if: you are on a managed or principal-contractor site, AGR or "collective fall protection during assembly" is written into the RAMS or method statement, your client audits build-up method, or the tower goes up and down repeatedly through the job.

The standard tower is enough if: you are a sole trader or small team on domestic work, you build the tower once and leave it up, and nobody is asking you to evidence the assembly method. It is the same aluminium, the same platform, the same working height and the same guardrails once the tower is built — the difference is entirely in how those guardrails get there.

The AGR version is £20 a week more. That is the whole difference in price, and we would rather you hired the cheaper one than paid for a specification nobody asked you for.

A staircase, not a ladder

The RISE frame carries a full internal staircase with a proper tread and handrail instead of a vertical ladder. Operatives carry tools and materials up with both hands on the rail rather than climbing one-handed, and move between levels all day without the fatigue a ladder frame causes. It stands on level ground like any other mobile tower — the staircase is about how you get up it, not about what it stands on.

Inspected before it leaves the yard

Frames, braces, platforms, guardrails, toeboards and castors are checked on every turnaround. Anything bent, cracked or worn comes out of service rather than going back on the shelf. See our safety and quality standards.

What the weekly price covers

The figure on this page is what you pay. Guardrails, toeboards, stabilisers and lockable castors come with the tower, not on the invoice — and there is no deposit and no card hold.

How this tower goes up

Who may build it: under the Work at Height Regulations 2005 a tower must be assembled by someone competent to do it — in practice, PASMA trained on this type of tower. If nobody on your team holds that, add our optional installation service and we will build it on delivery and take it down at collection.

The manufacturer's limits

From the assembly and use manual supplied with this tower — the manufacturer's figures, not our interpretation of them.

• Wind: stop work above 38 km/h (about 24 mph, Beaufort 6), and never try to move the tower in wind.
• Ground: level, flat and firm. On soft ground put base plates or U-profiles under the castors.
• Assembly: two people minimum, and both trained on this type of tower.
• Stabilisers: required at this height — out to full span before anyone climbs.
• Rest platform: one at least every 4m, so this configuration needs 3 on the way up.
• Moving it: drop the height to 6m first, raise the stabilisers no more than 10cm, and nobody stays on the tower.

Delivery and collection are free within 30km of our Cheshunt yard — North and East London, south Hertfordshire and west Essex — and a flat £45 for both legs beyond that.
