What a 4m tower is for

A 3.81m working height puts you at the gutter line of a bungalow, the ground floor of a house, or a normal interior ceiling with room to work above your head. It is the height most decorating, first-fix electrical and light maintenance jobs actually need — and the one people most often over-buy.

Is 3.81m the right height for you?

You stand on the platform at 1.81m and work comfortably to about 3.8m — that reaches the gutter of a bungalow, a garage roof or a shopfront fascia. Measure to the highest point you actually need to touch and take off roughly two metres; if the number you are left with is near 3.81, this is your tower. Working lower than that? The 3m version works to 2.81m, which reaches a normal domestic ceiling with room to work above your head. Need to go higher? The 5m version works to 4.74m, which reaches a single-storey extension roof and the head of a ground-floor window.

Will it fit, and can you get it there?

1.8m x 0.75m keeps the 750mm width that gets through a standard internal doorway, a side return or a communal corridor, while giving you 1.8m of platform to work along. It is the balance most interior and terrace work wants.

Check the turn as well as the doorway — a hallway with a tight corner can stop a 1.8m component even when the door is wide enough. The size guide covers measuring the narrowest point, the floor area including stabilisers, and the clear height you need while building.

One van, one trip. At 84.8kg total the components split into loads one person can carry in stages. It fits a standard transit or a large estate with the seats down, which is why this size gets used for multi-property maintenance rounds.

What comes with the hire

Guardrails, toeboards and stabilisers included

Every hire ships complete. Guardrails and toeboards are part of the tower rather than an extra line on the invoice, and the stabilisers are sized for the height you booked. Nothing to add at checkout and nothing missing on delivery.

Guardrails are fitted from the level you are standing on, which is the normal method for mobile towers and is what PASMA training covers. If your site specifically requires the guardrail to be fitted from the platform below — usually written into a method statement as AGR — the AGR version of this tower does that, for £20 a week more.

Folds flat, opens in minutes

The frame folds down as one unit rather than breaking into loose components, so it goes in the van assembled and opens on site in under ten minutes. How this tower goes up

Who may build it: under the Work at Height Regulations 2005 a tower must be assembled by someone competent to do it — in practice, PASMA trained on this type of tower. If nobody on your team holds that, add our optional installation service and we will build it on delivery and take it down at collection.

The manufacturer's limits

From the assembly and use manual supplied with this tower — the manufacturer's figures, not our interpretation of them.

• Wind: stop work above 38 km/h (about 24 mph, Beaufort 6), and never try to move the tower in wind.
• Ground: level, flat and firm. On soft ground put base plates or U-profiles under the castors.
• Assembly: two people minimum, and both trained on this type of tower.

Delivery and collection are free within 30km of our Cheshunt yard — North and East London, south Hertfordshire and west Essex — and a flat £45 for both legs beyond that.
