Scaffold Tower Size Guide
Width is the decision
Single width — 750mm
Fits through a standard UK internal doorway (about 762mm). The right choice for hallways, landings, side returns, alleyways, service corridors and plant rooms.
Trade-off: less room on the platform, and a narrower base means a lower maximum free-standing height for a given stabiliser setup.
Twin (double) width — around 1.35m
More platform to work from and more stable for a given height. Needs the space to get it there — it will not go through a standard doorway assembled or turn in a narrow passage.
Platform length
1.8m — the standard. Enough for one person plus tools and materials.
2.5m — more reach along a wall without repositioning. Worth it for long runs: ductwork, containment, guttering, coving. Needs more room to build.
The footprint you actually need
The tower's own dimensions are not the space it occupies. Stabilisers extend well beyond the base — often to 2.5m or more across on a taller tower.
Before you book, check there is room for the stabilisers where the tower is going. A tower without deployed stabilisers is not a tower you should climb.

| Single width 1.8m | 0.75m | 1.8 × 0.75m | 5.2m |
| Mobile 6m | 0.75m | 1.8 × 0.75m | 6.2m |
| Single width 2.5m | 0.75m | 2.5 × 0.75m | 6.2m |
| Stairwell | 0.75m | 1.8 × 0.75m | 5.0m |
| AGR | 1.45m | 2.5 × 1.45m | 8.2m |
Measure these three things
- The narrowest point the tower components must pass through
- The floor area where the tower will stand, including stabiliser spread
- The clear height above the base — you need headroom to build the lifts

Frequently asked questions
Which platform width fits through a door?
750mm. A standard UK internal door is around 762mm, so 750mm platforms pass through and 1.35m platforms do not. If any part of the route is a normal doorway, that decides the width for you before anything else does.
Do two people fit on one platform?
On a 2.5m x 1.35m platform, comfortably, with room for materials. On a 750mm platform two people is tight and leaves nowhere to put anything down. If both of you are working at height at once, the wider platform is worth the ground space it needs.
